Self-Funded Coverage

The Montana Municipal Interlocal Authority (MMIA) is a member-owned and member-driven organization that provides self-funded employee benefit, liability, property and workers' compensation coverage to incorporated cities and towns of Montana. The MMIA is a local government entity, not an insurance company.

Employee Benefits

The MMIA Employee Benefits self-funded pool covers the employees, retirees, and families of 90 Montana cities and towns. Participants' monthly premiums and the cities’ and towns’ contributions go into a pool that is used to pay for medical, prescription, dental, and vision claims. MMIA contracts with various vendors to process claims and offer cost-saving services to the pool and its participants.

Liability

The MMIA Liability self-funded pool covers 126 Montana cities and towns. Members' annual assessments go into a pool that is used to pay for liability claims. An invaluable part of the program is the Liability/Property Claims Unit that adjusts all liability claims brought against participating member cities and towns.

Property

The MMIA Property self-funded pool covers 118 Montana cities and towns. Members' annual assessments go into a pool that is used to pay property claims. An invaluable part of the program is the Liability/Property Claims Unit that adjusts all property claims of participating member cities and towns.

Workers' Compensation

The MMIA Workers' Compensation self-funded pool covers 108 Montana cities and towns. Members' quarterly assessments go into a pool that is used to pay workers' compensation claims. An invaluable part of the program is the Workers' Compensation Claims Unit that manages all workers' compensation claims for participating member cities and towns.
